WR Odell Elementary Battle of the Books
2022-2023 EBOB Information
North Carolina's Elementary Battle of the Books (EBOB) is an academic competition which encourages reading and includes a variety of literary genres. Participation is for students in grades 4 and 5. The students are expected to read 15 pre-selected books, and will practice throughout the fall & spring in preparation for the County Tournament, which takes place in the Spring. It is set up as a quiz bowl, with students being asked questions about books. Each elementary school team consists of no more than 12 fourth and fifth graders.
In order to participate in EBOB, students are required to have a parental permission slip signed and returned by September 22, 2023. Parents must also complete this online form HERE. Students wishing to try out must read 6 of the required 15 books on their own by October 20th. On October 23rd, 24th, and 25th, students who would like to be considered for our EBOB team will take a test in the media center which will cover the 6 books read. The twelve-member team will consist of the twelve students who earn the highest scores on the test. Once a student makes the team, he or she will be required to read up to 4 more books from the list. The team will be posted by the end of October. Practice will begin in November for the 12 team members from 7:05-7:45 (Day of the week TBD). Any class work students miss during this time will be the student’s responsibility to complete.
Once the team is determined, team members will receive a login to practice and review on their own through https://battlequestions.com/.
Login information will be given at the first meeting.
