2011 began as a year of promise and became a year of dominance.

In Cox Mill’s third year, the Lady Charger Golf Team has worked its way from a contender to the clear leader of the Southern Piedmont Conference.  This year, the team, lead by three juniors, K. Aiken, J. Rubinstein, and Nicole Hayton, amassed a 9-1 regular season record and dominated the Conference Tournament.

In the first two seasons, the team had to fight to finish second or third in each match.  Without a dominate player on the team, they relied on consistency and minimizing errors to be in competition in each match. Despite not winning, the team had a strong presence in the conference with at least two players making the 6-person All Conference Team every year. This year is no exception with three girls making the All Conference Team: K. Aiken (3rd year), J. Rubinstein (2nd Year) and N. Hayton (1st year).

Next stop is the Regional Tournament  on Monday, October 24th in Winston Salem.  Three Lady Chargers will be competing on the Meadowlands Golf Course vying for a spot on the 26 person list for the State Tournament.

This is just the beginning as all three  of these ladies will be back next year looking to make it a perfect 10-0 season and back to Regionals and State.

The saying in sports is “on any given day…”  Well, Tuesday October 18th was K. Aiken’s day!  Playing with the conference leader, K. Aiken not  only played with but outplayed  her opponent and the rest of the field to win the 2011 Medalist Honor for the SPC Tournament.  From first shot to last,  K. Aiken showed everyone that she can play the game of golf with anyone and win.

Over the 18-hole match, K. Aiken never trailed.  Shooting a tournament low 44 on the first 9-hoiles, she bested her opponent by 1-stroke and came home in 40 adding another 3-strokes to her margin of victory.

On Monday, Oct 24, K Aiken continued her strong play as she posted an 85, the 7th lowest score at the Regional Tournament.  Now it is on to the State Tournament in Pinehurst for 36-holes competing with the best 3A girl  golfers in the state.
