What is Makerspace?
"Makerspaces provide hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering and tinkering." This definition was written by Jennifer Cooper, and it is exactly what I want my students to do every day in my class. I encourage you to click on "What are we learning?" to learn more about what is happening in our classroom.

Mrs. Crystal Turney
My name is Crystal Turney, and I am the Maker Space Encore teacher. In this class, I want to inspire my students to imagine, explore, discover, create and think outside of the box. The activities and experiments we will do will be based on the NC Standard Course of Study for science. Students will also explore robotics and programming.
I received a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Queens University in Charlotte. After college, I returned to my hometown of Greensboro to work with children at the Guilford County Health Department. During this time, I was encouraged to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. I returned to Charlotte and received my teaching certification and Masters of Elementary Education from UNC-Charlotte. I have been a part of Cabarrus County Schools for 25 years. During my teaching career, I am humbled to have been selected twice by my peers as my school's Teacher of the Year. I have also been honored twice by my peers as an Impact on Education recipient.
I have been married for 27 years and have a daughter who is a senior at Western Carolina. Go CATS! I also have a son. The love and joy he brought to our family will never be forgotten. I enjoy reading children's literature, traveling to new places, and spending time with friends and family.
