What beliefs, ideas, celebrations, traditions, and values make up the culture of the U.S.?
How do the people of the U.S. govern themselves?

What students must be able to do:
  • Students will identify the U.S as a North American Country bordered by the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Canada and Mexico.
  • Students will be able to identify and locate the capital (Washington, D.C.)
  • Students will discuss and read about the U.S’s geography, natural resources, climate, and the population’s adaptations to those.
  • Students will take an informal assessment based on the essential knowledge taught.
  • Students will recognize the U.S.’s influence on the world economy through its exports.
  • Students will identify some of the exports and imports of the U.S
  • Students will discuss how U.S. geography impacts its economy.
  • Identify the natural resources, agricultural goods, and major industries of the U.S.
  • Identify the national holidays of the U. S.
  • Discuss traditions that are unique to the different cultural groups in the U.S.
  • Identify elements of a culture in the community.
  • Identify reasons communities may be different.
  • Students will read and discuss folktales from various countries and explore the similarities and differences.
  • Identify the U.S. flag
