FRES Instructional Technology Videos
The teaching and learning process at French Road is changing rapidly due to the acquisition of several types of instructional technology tools. These tools are designed to allow more:
- focused and efficient teaching
- focused, engaged, and collaborative learning
The videos listed on this page show a small sampling of the implementation of instructional technology at FRES and reflect the students' communication and engagement in the learning process. Additionally, the videos are meant to inform teachers of the various activities they may want to consider using each of the tools.

Visualizers Helping Students Present Their Math Problems
(1:10) Two students share and explain the solution to the same math problem. Students are very motiviated to share their work using the visualizer. Instructionally, it is very powerful for students to see how a problem can be solved a variety of ways. This accomplishes this goal very efficiently. -

Visualizers Helping Students Present Their Electrical Circuit
(4:18) Two students share their electrical circuit consisting of a switch, battery, and light bulb. Without the use of a visualizer, the entire class need to crowd around the two students' circuit while they attempt to explain for all to see and hear. The teacher does an excellent job of involving the class and maximizing the effectiveness of the visualizer by the observing students. -
Students Using Laptops
(1:59) Three clips show students using laptops at their desk and, collaboratively, at a table engaging in webquests and other research. A detailed explanation of webquests is included. -
A Student Using the SMART Board to Teach
(1:23) A student created a presentation, then, using the SMART Board, proceeded to teach the class certain math concepts. Please observe how the student uses the technology (and his comments) that are reflective of his teacher. -
Videostreaming (in the Lab)
(1 min 27 sec) Videostreaming allows video to be streamed to the computer as it is being viewed over the internet, without the need to download large files. The most significant advantage is that students can view the video at their own pace, pausing, rewinding, fast-forwarding and playing as needed. Other advantages are included on the video. -
Students Writing to Digital Audio
This short video (1 min 30 sec) shows the process students follow to transform their written work into digital audio files. Benefits of this tool are shared as well. -
Student Response System
(3:00) Three examples of elementary classes using a student response system (eInstruction's CPS) for a variety of purposes: testing for understanding, facilitating class discussions, and taking a test. -
Distance Learning: NASA Astronaut Pam Melroy
Astronaut Colonel Pam Melroy, commander of the last Discovery Space Shuttle Mission last October spoke to students in the Honeoye Central School District on Monday February 25 from 10:45- 11:50 and again from 12:50-1:55. She spoke to grades K-5 students in the first session and to grades 6-8 in the second session. Other districts had the opprotunity to view the video conference passively (by watching only). This video shows portions of this one-way presentations.
