    CONSERVATION WORK PARTY @ BLAKELY HARBOR PARK
    January 13, February 10 and March 9 from 10 a.m. to noon; Blakely Harbor Park, NE Country Club Rd & Blakely Ave NE; Free. Join the Park District, IslandWood, and the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation every second Saturday this winter in the ongoing restoration of Blakley Harbor Park! Thousands of volunteer hours have already been logged, helping transform the site of the former largest mill in the world. Volunteers will help remove invasive species, spread mulch to discourage regrowth, and plant native species where invasives have been controlled. It is well suited for children ages six and up who are comfortable using small hand tools and walking off trail on uneven surfaces. Snacks are provided.     MLK CELEBRATION: SEEDING THE DREAM
    Jan. 14 from 2:30-5 p.m. at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, 550 Winslow Way East. Free, but registration is requested. Join Kitsap ERACE, Living Arts Cultural Heritage Project and more at BIMA for this year's youth-led and youth-developed Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration. We will examine the contemporary impact of Dr. King’s legacy and its inspiration of a new generation of youth leaders, activists, and artists. Featuring poetry, dance, oratory presentations, music, singing, and community voices, this event captures the energy, excitement, and earnest exuberance of modern day dreams of social justice. 
     
    MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY OF SERVICE
    Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Blakely Harbor Park, NE Country Club Road and Blakely Ave NE; Free. Join BI Metro Parks and our partners, for the annual Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service. Volunteers come together to make this day of service a “day on not a day off.” Conservation projects for all ages are planned, including planting native wildflowers, mulching young plants, and removing invasive species like ivy, spurge laurel, and blackberry. Parks staff and knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to share knowledge about the park and its restoration and provide all the tools needed for the job.     TRAILS WORK PARTY @ FORT WARD PARK
    January 20, February 17 and March 16 from 10 a.m. to noon; Fort Ward Park, Fort Ward Hill Road; Free. Join the Park District's trails team, ParkRun, and the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation every third Saturday at Fort Ward Park this winter maintaining trail surfacing and pruning vegetation. Volunteers will meet at the upper parking lot. These work parties are well suited for children ages eight and up who are comfortable using some small hand tools and walking a mile or so throughout the two-hour work party. Snacks are provided.     BAINBRIDGE YOUTH SERVICES PRESENTS: THE DOCUMENTARY SCREENAGERS UNDER THE INFLUENCE
    February 1 @ 7 p.m. at Bainbridge Cinemas, 403 Madison Ave, North; Free. Please join us for a free showing of the documentary, Screenagers, Under the Influence, the third in the Screenagers trilogy. This documentary delves into how the tech revolution has reshaped adolescence through its effects on substance use. Unlike many documentaries on this topic, this one focuses on many teens' reality of being flooded by images on social media, movies, TV, etc., about vaping, drugs, and alcohol, as well as practical solutions for keeping teens safe in today's world. Kitsap Public Health will start the evening by giving a local perspective and overview of the issues portrayed in the film.     DAY OF SERVICE AT THE BAINBRIDGE ISLAND JAPANESE AMERICAN EXCLUSION MEMORIAL
    February 19 from 10 a.m. to noon; Pritchard Park, 4195 Eagle Harbor Dr; Free. Join the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial Association, the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, and Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District, for a day of stewardship to remember the 82nd anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066. Volunteers will help care for the grounds of this important Bainbridge Island park, including pruning vegetation, removing weeds, spreading mulch, and cleaning outdoor art features.     Made possible by Move Ahead Washington, anyone 18 and younger can ride free on buses, ferries and trains across Puget Sound. Participating agencies include Kitsap Transit, King County Metro, Sound Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit and Pierce Transit. Youth are also able to ride free on Washington State Ferries.
