Personal Note:
I have been a teacher here in Glendale Unified since 2000. For 10 years I taught Physical Education at Glendale High School. In 2010 I was asked to come over to Hoover and teach Fire Technology. This was an amazing opportunity and I'm so happy to be a part of the Hoover Ohana. I'm also currently teaching a Physical Education course here at Hoover which combines our SDC kids, who are students with disabilities and special needs with our Mainstream students. It is a fun and exciting class where the students, aides, and teachers collaborate to teach every student how to be healthy individuals and lifelong fitness learners.
In 1999 I joined the Sierra Mare Fire Department. This was a few months before I started with GUSD. I have "worked" both jobs ever since. I am currently a Captain with SMFD and enjoy being able to bring all of my knowledge and love for firefighting to the students of the Public Safety Academy. I grew up in the fire service and hope the students in the PSA utilize all of the skills they learn to become extraordinary citizens and hopefully pursue jobs or volunteer in Public Safety.
I am a local girl, I grew up here in the San Gabriel Valley. I attended Polytechnic School in Pasadena and graduated in 1992 after winning the CIF title in soccer 2 years in a row. I then attended USC from 1992 - 1996, earning a Bachelors in Science in Exercise Science. At USC I was a member of the Women's Varsity Div 1, Pac 10 Soccer team and a ranking member of Alpha Phi Sorority. I earned my Masters in Education at Azusa Pacific University.
I have always been involved in Public Safety and education. Starting at age 15 I was a junior ski patroller at Mt. Waterman which is close by, 27 miles up Angeles Crest Hwy. I also was a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor for the City of Pasadena and City of Duarte. At 18 I received an Emergency Medical Technician's Certificate. I love being able to provide pubic service and teach others about public safety. I hope to be doing so for many years to come.
