COVID-19 Testing

The health and wellness of our students and staff are top priorities. As of March 12, 2022, the following health, sanitizing and hygiene steps are occurring during the school day:

  • Prior to coming to school, families and staff are asked to conduct a health screening to self-evaluate for any COVID-19 symptom(s), including a temperature check.
    • Anyone with a fever of 100.0 or higher should not go to school.
    • Individuals with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms, ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptom(s) may appear 2-10 days after exposure to the virus.
    • Symptom(s) that would necessitate your child to stay at home include: Fever or chills; Cough; Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; Fatigue; Muscle or body aches; Headache; New loss of taste or smell; Sore throat; Congestion or runny nose; Nausea or vomiting; Diarrhea; Repeated Shaking/Tremors (Fresno County Public Health Department, Return to School, link below).
  • Absences as a result of illness symptom(s) will be excused.
  • K-12 guidance no longer requires face coverings at school, though they remain strongly recommended.
  • N95 and KN95 masks are available upon request for students and staff at all school sites.
  • Extra time is built into the day for hand washing/sanitizing.
  • Systems are in place for isolation of symptomatic individuals if someone falls ill while on campus.
  • Deep cleaning, ventilation and sanitizing of facilities follow California Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control protocols.
  • Free-standing HEPA filtration systems are in every classroom and common areas across the district. Each air scrubber exchanges air 3.6x times per hour to efficiently clean the air through the hepa filter, which is the equivalent of a MERV-17 rating.

Masks in Clovis Unified

As of March 12, 2022, face coverings are no longer required in California's K-12 schools. This means that masks are optional and strongly recommended by the State of California in schools. No cost N95 or KN95 masks are available for students and staff by request from your local school administration office.

COVID-19 Testing to Return to School

We’ve heard from families across our district that testing availability and cost can create challenges for students trying to return to school as soon as possible after isolation or quarantine, and we want to help!

To support families of students needing a negative COVID-19 test to return to school, Clovis Unified campuses are offering no cost testing options for parents.  Contact your child's school for details on the testing process, times and available locations offered.

What do I need to know about Clovis Unified’s COVID-19 testing?

  • No cost testing is provided for students and staff in need of a verified negative COVID-19 test to return to campus after isolation.

  •  This testing is not for initial COVID-19 diagnosis, but only for those individuals who have already tested positive for COVID-19 and are seeking to return to school after Day 5 of isolation.

  • Testing will be offered for those who are on Day 6 of required isolation who need a negative test to return to school. This will allow students who test negative to immediately rejoin their classroom.

  • Parents must be present to administer the rapid test to their child(ren).  A signed parental consent is required for secondary students who want to self-administer their COVID-19 test. (TESTING. COVID-19 Testing Consent Form.pdf | TESTING. COVID-19 Testing Consent Form.rtf)

  •  Parents may provide their own testing kit, or a no-cost COVID-19 antigen test will be provided by district personnel. Testing that occurs at a district site is a verified test for the purpose of returning to school and school activities.

Safe Return to Exercise After COVID-19

Per AB 856 - COVID-19 Youth Health Information Act, the California Department of Education (CDE) has provided best practices and guidelines on the safe return of students to exercise and physical activity after exhibiting sign or symptoms of, or testing positive for, COVID-19. That information can be found on CDE's website here: https://www.cde.ca.gov/pd/ca/pe/covidyouthhealthact.asp.

Social Emotional Support

In Clovis Unified, families have access to an extensive network of supports including school psychologists and others to support your child.

Tier I interventions are available for all students through every school. These include services like School Wellness Teams, Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), and available counselors and psychologists. Tier II and III interventions that offer a heightened level of support for students are also available. (See link to the Multi-Tiered System of Supports below.)

A student’s teacher and/or any other school personnel can connect your child with these resources. Parents can also request support and intervention for their student by contacting their school office at any time.
