My name is Melissa Barr and I am currently in my twentieth year of teaching. I started my teaching career right here at Baton and I hope to stay throughout the rest of my tenure.

I am originally from Burke County where I graduated from Freedom High School, class of '93. After graduation, I attended 1 year at WPCC and then headed up the mountain to Boone. I received my BS in Elementary Education from Appalachian State in '97. I began my teaching career that fall, and I also married my wonderful husband, Chad.

We have been happily married for nineteen years and have two delightful boys named Riley and Tanner. They are so precious to us and have added much happiness and laughter to our home. As the mom of two boys I have learned to overcome any fear I ever had of things that slithered, crawled, or hopped!

For the past twenty years I have taught fifth grade, so I am looking forward to beginning a new chapter in my career by teaching fourth grade for the first time ever! I am excited about what this year brings as we learn together!
