Mr. Drew Carter

Drew Carter is excited in his sixth year as the Director of Bands at Jay M. Robinson High School. For the previous six years, he was the director of bands at CC Griffin Middle School and assistant director of bands at Central Cabarrus High School, where his bands received numerous Superior Ratings at various music festivals throughout the Southeast.

Prior to his appointments in Cabarrus County, he held the position of Director of Bands at Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill, NC from 2005-2010. There, his responsibilities included directing the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Pit Orchestra, in addition to overseeing the jazz combo program. During his tenure at CHHS, the concert and marching bands, as well as the percussion ensemble, received numerous Superior ratings at District Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) events in Levels IV, V, and VI.

Prior to teaching at CHHS, Mr. Carter was the Director of Bands at West Alexander Middle School in Taylorsville, NC from 2003-2005, where his teaching responsibilities included 6th Grade Beginning Band, 7th Grade Intermediate Band, and 8th Grade Advanced Band.

Mr. Carter also directs the Charlotte Concert Band, a band made up of professional and dedicated amateur wind and percussion players.  They perform regularly throughout the academic year at various locations in Charlotte (www.charlotteconcertband.org).

Mr. Carter earned his National Board Certification in Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood in November of 2010, and admittance into the American School Band Directors Association in 2016.  He has studied conducting with Prof. Daniel Cook, Prof. Eugene Corporon, Dr. Travis Cross, Dr. Tim Robblee, Dr. Mallory Thompson, Dr. Andrew Trachsel, Dr. Michael Votta, and Dr. Eric Wilson. 

 
Mr. Carter received his Bachelor of Arts in Music (horn performance) from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000. He received his Master of Arts in Teaching from UNC-CH in 2001.  He also has had additional conducting studies with Prof. Eugene Corporon, Dr. Donald Hunsberger, and Dr. Mark Scatterday, and Dr. Mallory Thompson.

He is married to his wonderful and supportive wife of sixteen years, Mandy.  They live in Cabarrus County with their two sons, Van and Levi.
