Mrs. Amye Smereka

I am so excited about going into my seventeenth year here at Harrisburg Elementary.  I have spent all my years teaching at HES in first and second grade.  In 2017 I completed my Global Educator Badge for NC DPI.  I also completed years one, two, and three of the VIF modules in global education.  I love incorporating global awareness into my lessons.  This year, second graders will focus on Africa and learn about the people, countries, and cultures that come from that region of the world.   

I grew up in Michigan.  My husband and I moved to NC in 2005. We love the Harrisburg area and enjoy the warmer weather.  We do make it to Michigan once or twice a year to visit family and friends.  We have two very energetic teenage girls.  Abbey is a junior at Hickory Ridge High School.  Alexis is an eighth grader at Hickory Ridge Middle School. This summer we welcomed another baby girl, Alena, to our family.  When I'm not teaching, my husband and I are busy getting the girls to practices and games as they both play tournament and school softball.  Baby Alena keeps us all busy as well. 

I am looking forward to a fabulous year in second grade.
