Mr. Scott Nolt

My name is Scott Nolt and I am excited to be with you at Cabarrus Virtual Academy as the instructional designer. I was a social studies teacher for 20 years and have taught US history, Sociology, Civics, AP US history, AP European history, AP Government.

I was born and grew up in Manitoba Canada, and came to NC for college. I graduated from Pfeiffer University with a BA in history and philosophy. I earned my MEd from UNC Charlotte in Learning, Design & Technology, concentrating on Online Learning and Teaching and am completing my EdD in Curriculum & Instruction at University of South Carolina. I have been teaching blended and hybrid courses for eight years, and have worked at UNCC as an instructional designer.

My educational philosophy is to design learning that empowers students by recognizing and building on their unique context and perspective, building hope through relevant analysis of the subject, developing their skills of analysis and argument so that they can understand and have a voice to impact their world.

My online learning and teaching philosophy is for students to learn through authentic inquiry and interaction with each other, the course work and their teacher and develop presence and community in class through those relevant interactions that value students' unique contexts and perspectives.
