Application Process for Kindergarten Dual Language Immersion

  • The Dual Language Immersion Program is offered at two schools:

    Valley View Elementary 11750 Gramercy Place, Riverside, CA 92505

    Terrace Elementary 6601 Rutland Ave., Riverside, CA 92503

    STEP 1: ATTEND A MANDATORY PARENT INFORMATIONAL VIRTUAL MEETING

    Interested parents from all attendance areas should plan to attend one of the mandatory parent informational meetings to learn more about Dual Language Immersion program and its requirements. Applications for Dual Language Immersion program will be available during this meeting. The meeting information can be found on the DLI 2023-2024 Meetings page. 

     

    STEP 2: SUBMIT AN APPLICATION

    During the informational meeting, you will receive information on how to apply to the program. Upon receiving your application, we will contact you and schedule an appointment for your child's language assessment tests.

     

    STEP 3: STUDENT LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT AND PARENT ONE-ON-ONE CONSULTATION

    Every child who is a candidate for the DLI program is assessed to determine his/her native language levels. While your child is testing, you will fill out more application paperwork and meet with a DLI staff member. This will take place at our office at 9 KPC Parkway, Corona, CA 92879

     

    STEP 4: SELECTION OF STUDENTS

    Eligible students will be accepted into the program based on space availability and the following program criteria:

      • Younger siblings of currently enrolled students in a Dual Language Immersion program
      • School of residence
      • Students that reside within Alvord USD boundaries
      • Students who enter our district and were in a Dual Language Immersion program at their previous district
      • Spanish-proficient students who are new to the United States  
      • Students from outside Alvord USD boundaries

     

    STEP 5: PARENT NOTIFICATION 

    Parents will be notified of their child's acceptance into the program. Students who are not initially selected will be placed on a waiting list for openings that may become available at a later date.

     

    STEP 6: PARENT ORIENTATION

    Parents of students selected for the Dual Language Immersion program will be invited to an orientation by their school. Please note that application to the Dual Language Immersion Program is not the same as enrollment into the school district.     Be advised that parents must:

    1. Provide transportation for their student to the DLI school

    2. Commit to the DLI program throughout elementary school

    3. Agree to provide academic support at home

    4. Adhere to transfer policies
