Check in with your student daily to establish open communication and stay aware of all areas of their life.
Stay updated on their academics by:
- Daily planner checks. Your student should be writing down homework assignments & upcoming deadlines. If they know you will be checking everyday, it will hold them more accountable to remember to write the information down.
- Check binder & backpack weekly. Especially if your student has missing assignments, you may be surprised to find assignments completed, but never turned in.
- Check the Aeries Parent Portal to stay updated on grades. Contact the front office if you need your log in.
Ask your student open-ended questions (that require more than a yes/no answer) to find out about their day. Some examples are:
- What was the best/worst thing that happened today?
- What did you learn in Math (Language Arts, History, etc.)?
- Tell me something you laughed at today.
- How did you help someone today?
- Who is the funniest person in your class? Why is he/she so funny?
- If you got to be the teacher tomorrow, what would you do different?
- What was your favorite part of lunch today?
- What are you looking forward to tomorrow?
