Rio Rosales fourth-graders visit a national park

Fourth-graders from Rio Rosales elementary visited Channel Islands National Park, taking a boat over to Santa Cruz Island, thanks to one of several grants the park recently received. On the trip out to the island the students witnessed 2 grey whales in migration.

Every fourth-grader can get a free pass to the country’s national parks and historic sites. The pass, admits the student, along with everyone else in the car. To get the pass, students do a simple activity online about what they’d like to see and do at a park. The website is: www.everykidinapark.gov. The website also has information for teachers, as well as recommendations for planning trips, safety and packing tips, and other activities.

The grant from the National Park Foundation paid for the fourth-graders  to explore Santa Cruz. Shortly after they landed on the island, they spotted an island fox by the picnic tables as they ate their lunch. The students went on nature hike to the top of the mountain range and had a beautiful view of the whole island.

The trip was an adventure that the students will not forget anytime soon.
