Physical Science Students Consider Physical & Chemical Properties
Freshmen science students are learning to categorize matter as either a pure substance or a mixture. They are distinguishing heterogeneous and homogenous mixtures as well as elements and compounds. Part of the discussion includes the physical and chemical properties of different forms of matter too. There was a little bit of excitement in the room today in Physical Science when we took a look at the flammability of corn starch. Normally, corn starch is not flammable. However, if you increase the surface area exposed to oxygen, that chemical property changes quite dramatically! Students enjoyed capturing some videos of it, and some of those are shared here. Enjoy!
