The Last Great Race on Earth 2022
2022's "Last Great Race on Earth" is officially over. Mrs. Whitworth's FABulous 5th-graders took some time to learn the history behind the Iditarod and research some of the mushers who competed in this year's race. Each student chose a musher to root for and track during the race. Every morning, they would fill out a log sheet checking to see what place their musher was and where they were at on the race map.
This year, 3 students chose mushers who placed in the top 3 of the race. Kannon's musher, Brent Sass, came in 1st. Brady's musher, Dallas Seavey, was seconds behind and finished in 2nd. BradLee's musher, Jessie Holmes, came in 3rd. The traditional Red Lantern award went to Brody's musher, Matthew Failor.
The Red Lantern award goes to the last place musher who had the perseverance and determination to finish the brutal and dangerous race. He finished 3 days behind the 1st place winner. Overall, the class enjoyed learning the history behind this yearly event and hopefully will continue to watch it in the future.
