The Great Desert Island STEM Challenge
The seventh grade STEM students have been completing activities built around the story of a shipwrecked traveler stranded on a deserted island.
For the first step, students constructed a hut for the traveler to stay safely in. The given requirements for the hut were the following. It needed to have a working door, be at least 12 cm tall, and have a base area no larger than 200 square centimeters. The final test for the hut was for it to be able to withstand a windstorm.
We are happy to report that all huts did indeed stand strong through the windstorm. We might just have some future engineers in our STEM class.
