Miss Lang

Hello and welcome to my page. My name is Ms. Lang and this is my second year at Columbia. I love working with students to develop them into musicians that can succeed past elementary school and give students the opportunity to confidently continue music in middle school and beyond.

I am originally from Texas. I spent my high school years in a small town outside of San Antonio. After graduating, I attended Texas Lutheran University (Go Bulldogs!) in Seguin, Texas, where I majored in Music Education. Additionally, I was a member of the TLU wind ensemble for four years playing clarinet, remained active on campus through various organizations and volunteer work, and participated in orchestra as well. After graduating in 2015, I earned the position as an assistant band director at Wagner High School in San Antonio where I spent three years working with the marching band, jazz band, concert bands. In 2018, I made a move to Washington state, and began working at Columbia.

My goal for my students is to develop skillsets that will allow students the option to continue music beyond elementary school. Activities are centered around developing these skills for students.

  • Hi Columbia students and families,

I am working out some of the details with getting videos onto a family friendly and userfriendly platform. I currently have the links on google drive, and I am working on making sure the videos are visible to all. Thank you for your patience.

  • Happy Monday Everyone!

Our first Musical Monday is going to be over one of the most well-recognized musicals in the United States.

Singin' In the Rain is about 3 actors in the 1920's as they transition from silent movies to "talkies". The three main characters, Don Lockwood, Kathy Seldon, and Cosmo Brown plan together to make their new movie, The Dancing Cavalier, a roaring success.

The turning point in the musical where the ideas come together is with the song "Good Morning" where the three main characters stay up all night to come up with the idea for The Dancing Cavalier.

    Watch "Good Morning Here"

    About the cast:

Gene Kelly plays Don Lockwood. Gene Kelly is a legendary broadway and film performer, actor, director, and choreographer.

Debbie Reynolds plays Kathy Seldon. Debbie Reynolds has a long history in Hollywood spanning over 60 years. Another fun fact: she is the mother to Carrie Fisher AKA Princess Leia!

Donald O'Connor plays Cosmo Brown. O'Connor, like Kelly, had a long career on stage and in film.

  • Dear Columbia Families,

I have been brainstorming ideas on how to get some additional music at home. There will be daily updates with the following themes

Musical Monday- There will be clips with the history of musical theater every monday with some notes and clips on the different musicals, as well as hopeful resources to be able to access these musicals at home.

Tour the orchestra Tuesday- On Tuesdays, there will be a video over the different instruments of the orchestra with recordings.

World Music Wednesdays- On Wednesdays, there will be clips of ensembles and instruments from around the world! This is one I am super excited to share with everyone.

Throwback Thursday- Thursdays will be an homage to music from the past, everything from Bach to Motown to current hits on the radio along with the different elements about the music and inspirations.

Folk Music Friday- Going back to some of the music that helped shape us today, Folk Music Friday will have step-by-step folk dances, folk music, as well as the modern folk revivals are going to be included.

So, stay tuned to my teacher page for these daily updates!

    Miss Lang
