CCSS REPORT CARDS
Purpose
With the transition to the Common Core State Standards, there was a need to design a new report card aligned to the new curriculum and assessment changes. With this goal in mind, a Report Card Advisory Committee was formed and tasked with developing a tool that captures and reports student academic progress in a clear and effective manner. The MUSD Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Report Card was first implemented as part of a field test at many of our elementary schools during the 2013 - 2014 academic year. Parents, teachers, and administrators were encouraged to complete surveys to provide feedback on the organization and content of the new report card. The report card committee used this data to make additional revisions for 2014- 2015. New Changes The two new changes in the CCSS Report Card for 2014 - 2015 are in the way we mark the Academic Content Standards and English Learner Progress. 1. Marking Progress in the Academic Content Standards The expected depth or level of understanding of the grade level Common Core State Standards is measured against the end of the school year proficiency NOT against the end of the trimester proficiency. Marks (4) Thorough Understanding > a 4 was formerly Exceeding the Standards (3) Adequate Understanding> a 3 was formerly Mastery of the Standards (2) Partial Understanding > a 2 was formerly Expected Performance (1) Minimal Understanding > Formerly known as Area of Concern N/A Not Applicable 2. Marking ELD English Language Development All English Learners will receive a mark to demonstrate their level of attainment of English as a second language AND also their understanding of the Language Arts content. In English Language Development, the marks are: Emerging> Formerly known as Beginning/Early Intermediate Expanding> Formerly known as Intermediate Bridging> Formerly known as Early Advanced/Advanced Report Card Letter for Parents English | Vietnamese | Spanish A Guide to Understanding the 2014 - 2015 Elementary CCSS Report Card CCSS Report Card Parent Information English | Vietnamese | Spanish Tri-Fold Brochure Previous Changes Implemented in 2013 - 2014
Next Steps Our Elementary Report Card Advisory Committee plans to continue to meet to review stakeholders’ input and make the necessary revisions to our report card. |
