TECHNOLOGY MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Miami Trace Local School District is to integrate technology into the learning environment to enable students and staff to become lifelong learners.

TECHNOLOGY VISION

Technology is a catalyst for change in education.  New software and hardware have been purchased so that students will master topics aligned to the Ohio academic content standards and tested on the state assessments.  1. Using Study Island software program, a leading provider of web-based state assessment preparation programs and standards-based learning programs, students in grades one through twelve will increase student achievement on state assessments.  2. By incorporating the use of the SmartBoard as a teaching tool, staff will energize their presentations thereby engaging and motivating their student audiences.  3. Using electronic writing tools, students will enhance written communication skills to create and publish documents.  4. Probes and other data-gathering devices will be available for the science classroom/laboratory.  5. Using graphic design software, students will create projects in the area of fine arts.  6. Through the use of electronic resources, students will stay informed of current events and use software that enables them to reflect historical information.  The opportunity for students and staff to become knowledgeable and skilled in the area of technology will be ensured by fulfillment of the district's vision.

INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGY

The Miami Trace Local School District has made a commitment to the integration of technology into all areas of the curriculum.  By so doing, the district realizes the significant role that technology plays in impacting student learning.  Technology is provided in all classrooms in the district--from computer stations to Smart Boards, from wireless laptops to wireless slates, from videos to downloaded/streamed video clips, and from basic word processing to assistive learning devices and programs.  Typically, the train-the-trainer approach is used for technology integration.

Software Answers' Student Information module is the district's student information system.  Progress Book is used for online grade recording and reporting for grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  Progress Book training is provided for all staff.  All district libraries use the Sirsi system of automation.  The district converted all cash register systems to a computerized program called NutriKids.

FUTURE TECHNOLOGY

The Miami Trace Local School District does not go out to get the “biggest and the best.”  The district carefully selects hardware and software based on the needs of the students and staff.  The hardware is on a five-year cycle, with the possibility of replacement within that five-year period in the event of malfunctions OR with the possibility of increasing the technology in the classroom based on the classroom needs.  In addition to acquiring technology, it is extremely important to maintain the technology.  The district’s computer technicians are responsible for providing technical expertise and manual skill in the installation, servicing, and repair of the district’s technology equipment.

The implementation of a 1:1 initiative began in the fall of 2017 for Miami Trace High School and was completed at the start of the 2019-2020 school year.
