The Special Education Department, comprised of team members with specialized training, consults with students, parents, and teachers to collaborate in identifying, evaluating, and delivering service to students with disabilities.
Ohio requires that all IEPs be standards-based to prepare Ohio's children for their future beyond school. IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004) federal guidelines require that all children with disabilities have access to and make progress in the general education curriculum. To comply with state and federal mandates, instruction is provided to ensure all children with disabilities have access to a free, appropriate public education emphasizing specially designed instruction to meet individual needs.
Handicapped accessibility is also a priority for Miami Trace.
Teacher education is a targeted area. With ever-changing federal and state mandates and the increased need for highly qualified teachers, professional development opportunities are offered locally so that teachers stay current and acquire coursework leading to licensure in the area of special education.
It is our vision that all students with disabilities will receive a quality education based on individual needs in order to become productive, successful adults.
