Travis Crain

Coach Crain begins his fifth year as the head coach of the Mustang Basketball Program. He also teaches AP Literature. He is entering his 16th year coaching and 14th year teaching.
 
Coach Crain led the Mustangs to a district title during the 2022-2023, their first district championship in 18 years. The Mustangs also broke a 12-year playoff drought in the process. 
 
From 2014-2019, Coach Crain served as the associate head coach in Dripping Springs. As part of the Tiger coaching staff, Coach Crain helped the Tigers reach three straight trips to the playoffs, including a visit to the Regional Finals in 2017 and two second round finishes. Previously he was the head coach at Lytle High School from 2012 to 2014. While with the Pirates, Coach Crain went 24-30 with a playoff appearance in 2013. Coach Crain began his high school coaching career as an assistant coach for Mustang Basketball. While on the staff, he helped the Mustangs into the playoffs and a first round win over Austin Lanier in 2011.

Coach Crain began his coaching career as the assistant Women's basketball coach at Schreiner University from 2008 to 2010. He previously served as a student assistant for the Women's basketball program at The University of Texas-San Antonio. The Roadrunners won the Southland Conference Tournament Championship in 2008 and made the program's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

From San Antonio, Texas, Coach Crain is a graduate of the University of Texas-San Antonio where he earned his BA in English in 2008. He then earned his MS in Sport Management from Texas A&M in 2019. He and his wife Lindsey have been married for twelve years and have two children. He published his first book, Back Pages, in July 2018.
