Mrs. ROXANA IULIA DALABAN

Welcome to My ESL Classroom Web Page

Welcome! ยินดีต้อนรับ! Bienvenido! ! Bienvenue!

Welcome to the English As A Secondary Language Program (ESL).

My name is Roxana Iulia Dalaban, and I am the ESL teacher serving the Multilingual Language Learner students at  Northwest Cabarrus Middle School in Cabarrus County for this school year (2022-2023).

I am looking forward to an amazing  school year!

As you probably know by now, at this time all students will attend school in person.

Please keep checking my website for important updates and assignments related to the ESL program during the 2022 - 2023 school year.

My daily class is set up in CANVAS under the title 2022 -2023 DALABAN ENGLISH As a Secondary Language.

*Teacher's Note: it is awesome to be able to meet my students in person in August, but if anything changes/just in case, we will be asked to teach remotely at any time during the 2022-2023 school year, this is what the ELL students need to do - on my  HOME PAGE in Canvas English As a Secondary Language - Dalaban, students will see three different links to click on depending on their  grade, and schedule:

FOR the ML students at NWCMS - Click on one of these links according to your GRADE and given schedule, please.

1. Join Welcome ....Grade 6 Microsoft Team Meeting NWCMS

2.Join Welcome ...Grade 7 Microsoft Team Meeting NWCMS

3. Join Welcome...Grade 8 Microsoft Team Meeting NWCMS

*Click on the link according to your  grade level, and given schedule.

I will be right there to meet you.

NOTE: in case we need to teach LIVE lessons at any point in time this new school year, or to be in direct contact with me, the ELL  students need to use Microsoft Teams according to their given schedule.

*I will update my schedule weekly or as new changes/enrollments occur, whatever comes first.

My 2022-2023 schedule at NWCMS  is from 8.35 A.M.to 4.05 P.M .

I teach our Titan Multilingual Learners/students at these times:

1st  period/ Grade 6

*2nd period Consult Grade 6

3rd period/ Grade 8

*4th period/ Consult Grade 8

5th period / Grade 7

*6th period/ Consult Grade 7

7th period TITAN TIME

If we need to use  Microsoft Teams at any time during the school year, the ELL STUDENTS should look for and join:

Dalaban ESL Grade 6

Dalaban ESL Grade 8

Dalaban ESL  Grade 7

*PARENTS: if at any time we are asked to teach remotely or in an emergency/absence situation - please encourage the students to use the RAZ KIDS program we will also be using in the class, just to keep up with learning for the ESL class.

All students will be instructed on how to use the program, and they will all have the basic directions on how to log in and use the program. Please e-mail me if you are having trouble logging into the RAZ KIDS program.

ALL Multilingual Lerner students who see me for the ESL class every day use RAZ KIDS LEVELED BOOKS for 15 to 30 minutes daily for ESL during the period when we are online learning.

**The research-based RAZ KIDS program is a highly efficient reading language program that allows students to LISTEN to both fiction and nonfiction books being READ ALOUD to the students, and then they can  RECORD themselves by reading aloud (and I can check the recording for fluency and pronunciation); additionally, students have to pass a COMPREHENSION QUIZ, and finally, they can CREATE a PIECE of WRITING by answering questions based on the book.

*The writing part can be sent to me via e-mail (take a picture of it and attach it to my e-mail)/ *this is optional.

We will also work on the correct usage of English grammar, with plenty of practice exercises for each topic.

All language skills will be covered daily:

Listening - as students listen for directions

Reading - all students will be given the chance of reading to the teacher

Speaking - all students will take turns speaking on different topics

Writing - all students will be given a written  part of each topic

I can send messages in the Chat provided by the program, I check, send rewards, and ...grade all student's work.

Let's HAVE AN AMAZING SCHOOL YEAR!

Important note for parents and staff:

the ACCESS/WIDA testing period for the 2022-2023 school year is pending  (Level 1, Level 2 - students who take my class every day of the week) and those served on a consultation basis in the ESL program (Level 3).

A letter /e-mail will be sent home in December to inform you about the English language proficiency testing that usually takes place from January until March/April.

* Parents, please remember to check your children's ESL Progress Reports quarterly if they are active/daily served in the pull-out English As A Secondary Language service (ESL), Level 1, Level 2.

In other words, if your child attends my ESL class every day of the week for one period, as their schedule should say, you should receive their ESL grades along with their homeroom grades.

As a rule, you have access to the ESL Progress Report and the students' Report Cards for each quarter via POWERSCHOOL.

Please see the UPCOMING EVENTS APP for further details.
