I am so excited about being your child's sixth grade science and social studies teacher. This is my second year teaching sixth grade, and nineteenth year teaching grades third through sixth (math, social studies, and science). . I hope you will promise to take the time and effort to work with me as a team. A good support team ensures a productive and successful school year for everyone involved.
Homework is an important part of this curriculum(studying nightly unless there becomes a need). It is my way of knowing if your kid(s) need extra help on a standard being taught. If they bring me an empty sheet back, I have nothing to go on, and it hinders my ability to help them succeed. Homework should not take more than 15-20 minutes if students come into class and work daily from start to finish. If you find that he or she is spending hours doing homework, then it is usually due to them not completing the required work in class and now it has become homework times two. I don't always give homework, but PLEASE encourage students to review and study nightly to ensure they are passing the required standards that will be assessed throughout the year. Students will receive some extra support for ELA in my class, working on sentence structure, writing, and other standards they will be responsible for in their regular ELA class.
Please take the time to sign up for Remind and accept my request to view students' work in Google classroom. I communicate with parents through both platforms to ensure that not only are my students informed, but my parents as well. That is how we work together to ensure student success.
I have a BS in Elementary Education, an AA in Human Service, and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. I am honored to be named the recipient of the Beverly Briscoe Award and Teacher of the Year for the Biloxi Public Schools. I am a loving wife (F. Dunbar) and mother (4 girls, 1 boy) and a proud Glamma of 5 (3 girls, 2 boys).
It is such a privilege to be a part of your child's learning experience. I will push your children beyond what they feel they can do by setting high expectations. The reward of setting high expectations is being able to congratulate them when they work beyond my expectations, but more so, their own expectations.
