Mrs. Smith has been teaching for 26 years. This is her 11th year with the Biloxi school district, and she currently serves as the elementary music coordinator, as a Band Director, and teaches 5th grade select music. Throughout her career, her band and choir programs have excelled not only locally but at regional and state competitions. As a marching band director, her program won the state marching championship in 2006, 2008, 2011, and 2012. Her groups have performed at the Lincoln Center in New York City, as the representative for the state of Mississippi in the National Memorial Day parade in Washington D. C. 

 

Mrs. Smith often serves as a guest conductor and clinician at colleges and universities across the state. She currently serves as the Vice-President of the Mississippi Women's Band Director's Association, and is a Past-President of the Southeastern Mississippi Band Director's Association. She has also served on the championship committee, Concert Music selection committee and several other appointed boards for the Mississippi State Band Directors Association. Smith is also a member of the National Band Association from which she has received three Certificates of Merit for Marching Excellence. She was chosen Star Teacher for the West Jasper School District in 2016, Teacher of the Year at BUE in 2019-2020, and recently received the William Carey University Alumni Award in 2018.
