Skill Focus:  Nonsense Word Fluency

Materials:

Teacher generated list of nonsense words

Letter Cards (double set)

Teacher Modeling and lesson:

Teacher selects 5 students to model the game.  Pass out letter cards (some will be extras).  Teacher says a nonsense word.  The students with the correct letter cards need to step forward and put themselves in the correct order to spell the word. 

Split the group into two teams.  Pass out letter cards to both groups.  Teacher says a nonsense word and each team needs to send up the students with the correct letters to spell the word.  Teams need to check for correct letter order by sounding out their team’s word.  The first team to spell the word correctly wins a point.
