Local High School Students Apply for Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) D.C. Youth Tour Sponsored by North East Missouri Rural (NEMR) Telecom
Green City, MO, February 28, 2019
NEMR Telecom hosted an interview dinner to choose two candidates to represent the company at the 25th annual Foundation for Rural Service (FRS)
Youth Tour to Washington D.C.
High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors within the company’s telephone service area are given the opportunity to apply for this trip by submitting a one-page essay and an application.
The candidates included the following, pictured Front Left to Right: Chloe T (Putnam County R-1), Kaylee L (Schuyler County R-1), Taryn S (Adair County R-1).
Back Row, Left to Right: Ryan J (Green City R-1), Hunter Y (Clark County R-1), Magnum T (Scotland County R-1), Zach C (Green City R-1), Aaron P (Putnam County R-1).
On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, the students and their family members joined with the Education Committee from NEMR Telecom’s Board of Directors, Michele Gillespie, CEO, and Justin
Simmons, FRS Youth Tour Coordinator to meet for a dinner and interview process. The students were each called upon to introduce themselves and give a brief family history and
other relevant information. Students shared about their hobbies, interests, future plans and other reasons they believed they were good candidates for the FRS Youth Tour.
Following the dinner, the Education Committee formally selected two students to participate in the tour to D.C. this June. Chloe T and Aaron P are our two winners for 2019.
“We enjoyed having the opportunity to learn more about these great students from our local schools and the Board of Directors had a hard time of narrowing it down to only two winners,”
said Gillespie. “Each one was an excellent candidate and we look forward to having two of them represent NEMR Telecom on this year’s FRS Youth Tour.”
The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) annual Youth Tour is one of the most visible examples of the foundation's involvement with, and commitment to, rural youth. 2019 marks the 25th
annual Youth Tour. Each year, in collaboration with NTCA member companies, FRS brings rural students from across the United States to Washington, D.C. for a four-day tour of some of
the most historical sites in the nation.
