From the Desk of Dr. Halley: Passionate Staff

It is my hope and prayer that we look back at the 2020 COVID-19 situation and we grow as a school, community, and country. So that we are better prepared to handle situations as we are facing today. However, in times like these, we are reminded of what Putnam Pride is all about.

1 Mission: Building Tomorrow Together

Over the past 24 hours, I have seen our Passionate Staff making time, getting outside their comfort zones, recording lessons online, reading to their students on social media, engaging with their class using Google Meet and other apps, and delivering instruction, review, and encouragement.

As I was walking our empty halls yesterday afternoon, I watched from the door as Kyle Fleshman recorded a math lesson to a room full of empty chairs. Sophie Errante and Jeremy Watt also spent time recording lessons on grammar and science.

Tara Fenton has shared scavenger hunt ideas and educational apps with her group, Fenton’s Fabulous Firsties.

Gayla Whitworth has been utilizing Google Meet and other apps to be available to her students each day and answer their questions about assignments.

How special it was to see Ashley Jones reading the bedtime story There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves to her 2nd-grade students.

These are just a few special things our teachers and staff are doing while enduring these difficult times.  I know there are many more that I just haven’t seen or heard of yet. We will continue to share what our passionate staff is doing to keep our students engaged in the learning process while away from school. As I do many times, I want to share a quote with you.  R.J. Palacio said this: “Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are qualities that define us as human beings and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.”
