Keeping Schools Safe
From the desk of Dr. Halley:
Good morning parents, I hope all is well for you and your family. I want to take this opportunity to provide what details I can regarding last night's school messenger and the social media threat. Late in the evening, we had a student come forward with vague information from a Snapchat conversation. The student shared this information with High School Principal Klinginsmith.
At that time, we began with law enforcement notification. Law enforcement proceeded to the home where the Snapchat originated from. The Sheriff's deputy communicated back that there was no evidence to support the claims made via Snapchat.
The administrative team communicated with both families of the children involved in the social media communications to ensure understanding and safety.
With that information, the administrative team decided to send the school messenger last night to be as transparent as possible, while giving parents the opportunity to make the decision for their children regarding school attendance today. I am happy to report that our attendance rate is 90+% today. We also requested a law enforcement presence this morning on campus. We are pleased with the support we received from the City, County, and State law enforcement officials. We are blessed to have such supportive individuals and agencies in our community.
From the information we have, law enforcement and school officials do not believe students are in any danger. The situation will continue to be monitored by both the school and law enforcement. My hope for you and your is to have a safe and Merry Christmas.
Sincerely,
Heath Halley
