    Freshman Timeline 

    •   Begin with the end in mind! Develop good study habits. Every grade matters- work hard and if you feel like you are getting behind, talk to your teacher or counselor.  

    • When you complete and pass the required classes to graduate as a Maury County student, you will meet the requirements for most colleges. Strive for honors classes to strengthen your college and scholarship applications. 

    • Begin to identify your interests – likes and dislikes- and think about careers you would enjoy. Take an interest inventory at www.collegefortn.org or Major Clarity  

    • Talk to others about their careers, education and training and begin to look for more career information.  

    • Get involved – join clubs, play a sport, participate in community service. o Create a portfolio to keep your report cards, lists of awards, honors, school and community activities, volunteer work, employment experience. Add to this every year.  

    • Begin to explore schools-technical schools, 2 year schools, 4 year schools and the military. Compare degrees offered, salary projections, education required, etc.  

    • Think about spending your summer either working a part-time job or participating in summer enrichment programs, volunteering, etc.
