UPDATE - 2/27/24 - Will my child be eligible to participate in athletics at Battle Creek High School if he or she has established an athletic record at another high school?
All students who are zoned for Battle Creek High will be eligible for athletics from day one.
All 9th grade students (zoned and out-of-zone) will be eligible for athletics because they have not established a high school athletic record.
All students will be eligible for football because football will only be playing a junior varsity schedule.
Tenth grade out-of-zone students desiring to play sports other than football will be ineligible for varsity games only in a sport in which they established an athletic record as 9th graders.
TSSAA Bylaw Statement Concerning Eligibility - A student has an "athletic record" if the student has played in an interscholastic contest at the varsity, junior varsity, ninth grade, or any other level, on behalf of a TSSAA member school or a school that is a member of a state athletic association holding membership in the National Federation.
My earlier understanding was that students were required to play in a varsity game to establish an athletic record.

Will there be a marching band? Updated answer
We should be able to have a marching band the first year. I have looked at our predicted enrollment of 457 and compared that to some other schools in the area. We will be larger with our two grades than some schools in neighboring counties that have had marching bands for years. Once our band director is in place, I am sure that he or she will be in contact with interested students to begin working on the upcoming school year.

Will BCHS offer JROTC?
I have recently learned that opening a JROTC program like the wonderful programs at SHHS and CHS is very difficult. Those two programs have been around for many years.
New JROTC programs are not allowed until a current JROTC program at a school somewhere in the country closes. The armed force branches have funds for a certain number of programs each year. I am in the process of applying to be placed on the waiting list.
