Parent and Family Engagement
-
Research continues to show that academic achievement is positively impacted when parents and families are actively engaged in their child's education. Some of the benefits of active parent and family engagement are:
- Increased academic achievement, regardless of socio-economic status, ethnic/racial background, or parent education level
- Better student attendance rates
- Higher grades and test scores
- Higher graduation rates and enrollment in post-secondary education
- Greatest gains for students who are farthest behind
- Decrease in high-risk activities such as alcohol use, violence, and antisocial behaviors
- Better transitions from elementary to middle, middle to high, and high school to post-secondary or career
We want parents and families to feel comfortable in our schools and with our staff. We encourage and invite parents and families to visit our schools and talk with their children's teachers.
Each Title I school in MCPS is required by law to annually develop (with input from parents and families) and distribute a school-parent compact and a school-level parent and family engagement policy. Below are the school-parent compacts and parent and family engagement policies for MCPS Title I schools.School-Parent Compacts
