School NutritionOverview
The School District of La Crosse believes that a healthy, well-nourished, active child is better prepared to learn. We provide well-balanced, nutritious food choices that contribute to lifelong eating habits.
Join Us for Meals!
The School District of La Crosse offers both breakfast and lunch at all of our sites, each day. Eating breakfast and lunch positively affects learning in children in both school performance and behavior. Our meals are both healthy AND delicious! Each meal includes low-fat milk, Farm to School/locally grown fruits and vegetables, protein foods and whole grains. Our meals contain less sodium and no trans-fats! Students are required to choose at least three of the five components offered, one of which must be a fruit or vegetable. Students will also frequently see menu items that include produce from our school gardens and beef that comes from a local farmer!
“Smart Eats” is our school nutrition program’s exciting initiative designed to incorporate fresh, locally grown produce into students’ daily diets. The program’s goals are to teach children that healthy foods taste good and are fun to prepare. We host a farm-to-school program, fresh fruit and vegetable snack program, student and adult cooking classes, fine dining after-school program, school gardens, farm tours, and cooking contests.

Challenges This Year ~ Menu Changes Are Highly Likely
The School District of La Crosse Nutrition Department is experiencing supply-chain interruptions due to limited product availability, nationwide transportation challenges, and supplier labor shortages. Please know our department is working diligently to minimize the effect this may have on our students.
Product shortages will remain until the supply chain stabilizes. Menu changes are highly likely during these times. All students will continue to be offered meals that meet USDA menu requirements, and nutrition standards, and are student-preferred options. To get daily menu change announcements please visit the web menu of the school your child attends
