Hopkins County Schools provides a state-funded preschool program at elementary schools throughout the district. The preschool program is for children four years old whose family income meets the federal "at-risk" criteria or for children three or four years old that have an educational disability or developmental delays.
"At-Risk" criteria means your household income is at 160% of the federal poverty guidelines. Children must be 4 years old by August 1st and have a household income at 160% of federal poverty to be considered for the at-risk eligibility criteria.
All children will receive a developmental screening to determine if there is a potential developmental delay in any area. If a potential delay is identified, children will receive interventions for the areas of concern.
All 3- and 4-year-old children are not eligible for the state-funded preschool program based upon federal and state guidelines.
To determine if your child is eligible for the preschool program, you may contact Hopkins County Schools Department of Early Childhood at 270-825-6100 ext. 22244.
All pre-registrations will be completed online for the 2024-2025 school year. No registrations by phone will be accepted. Any child who will be 3 years old by August 1, 2024, or who is 4 years old may complete the online pre-registration to determine eligibility for preschool or the need for a developmental screening.

Parent Guides Information Sheet
The Parent Guides for Kentucky’s Early Childhood Standards provide a vehicle to assist parents in understanding the developmental sequence that unfolds in the first four years of life. These guides stress the significance of everyday positive interactions and how these interactions help to prepare children for later success in school and life. The guides lay the foundation for parents to see the connection between what they do with their child during daily routines and how these everyday activities link to their child’s learning. -
Kentucky Early Childhood Standards
The Kentucky Early Childhood Standards document consists of standards, benchmarks, developmental continuum and example behaviors and is linked to the Kentucky Department of Education K-12 Program of Studies and to the National Head Start Outcomes. Theses standards guide the developmentally appropriate activities and experiences the district’s interdisciplinary early childhood educators provide to the children participating in our KERA & Head Start Blended Program each day. The critical knowledge and skills learned in the early years are presented in developmental domains for children birth-to-three years of age and in content areas for three-and-four-year-old childrenBuildingaStrongFoundationforSchoolSuccessKentuckysEarlyChildhoodStandardsREVISED.pdf 1840.971 KB (Last Modified on April 13, 2017) -
