Ms. Anderson

I have worked in education since 1996. I have taught all levels. Most of my career I taught drama classes in a K-5 arts forward school. I received my teaching degree from Lees-McRae college, Masters in Education from UNCG and achieved my National Board in Literacy in 2009. I feel so blessed to teach near my home in Collettsville.

My favorite quote about teaching is from Mark Van Doren. "The ART of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." I love to watch students' eyes light up when they surprise themselves with understanding and reaching a goal through fun learning experiences.

My parents were both teachers, and my relative was the first female principal in NC. My family gave the land for Mars Hill College and Campbell University to be established. Teaching is in my blood! As a child, I would make all the neighborhood kids sit in the grass of our backyard and I would write the alphabet on a little chalkboard for them to copy. As far back as I can remember, whenever anyone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would always say A TEACHER.

I love to read and love to teach students the joy of reading! It brings me so much joy to see their eyes light up when they find adventures in books and hear their giggles when the story takes a twist. I am a life-long learner and hope to create that mindfulness in others.

I love driving as far as I can go up Wilson's Creek. My favorite time of year is fall and winter. Another favorite spot is Caldwell County Public Library for the summer reading program. They always have so many fun things to do. If you can catch any of the food trucks in town; try them because they are great.

I enjoy reading on my back porch. I enjoy trying new restaurants. I also love to go to thrift shops or antique stores and find little treasures.
