Fifth graders learned about the rules and expectations in the Media Center. Then they worked in small groups to create a project that demonstrated their understanding of the Media Center rules and expectations. 

Fifth graders learned how to use the Destiny Quest search engine to look for available books in the Media Center. They learned about book genres and their location in the Media Center. They demonstrated their learning by going on a scavenger hunt. First they scanned QR codes with an iPAD which brought up a book title. Then they went to a computer and searched for the book using Destiny Quest. Next they had to find the book on the shelf. If they found the correct book, it will have a new QR code with a new book title. They continue until they reach their last book celebrating their learning.

Fifth graders learned that their sense of smell is controlled by their nervous system. They tested their sense of smell by going on a mystery smell hunt. They smelled 12 different mystery scents. They tried to identify the source of the smell. Many of them were able to recall a memory that was associated with a certain scent.

Fifth graders demonstrated their understanding of the human body systems by choosing 1 human body system. They worked in collaborative groups to create a project to showcase their understanding of the body system. Some groups decided to draw their body system while others chose different materials to build a replica of their body system.
