The SAT was first introduced in 1926.  At the time, SAT stood for Scholastic Aptitude Test.  The acronym was later revised to stand for Scholastic Assessment Test.  In 1997, CollegeBoard changed the exam's name again to "SAT," with SAT no longer meaning anything.  Now the "SAT" is just the SAT.
