Mountain View Middle School is a highly certified A.V.I.D. Site!

    What is A.V.I.D.?

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Here at Mountain View Middle School, we offer AVID both as an optional AVID Elective class and as a mandatory school wide AVID Strategies class which every student will take the semester opposite of their PE Class.

What is the difference between A.V.I.D. Strategies and A.V.I.D. Elective?

The AVID Strategies Class helps instruct all of our students on effective academic strategies such as Cornell Notes, organization, study skills, and more.

The AVID Elective class is for the students who want to join the AVID program; aimed at preparing middle school students with academic potential, for success in rigorous advanced high school classes and in college. Students are supported academically through tutorial groups. Students are motivated to pursue academic excellence through goal setting, rigorous classes, cultural and college field trips, study of potential career paths, classroom guest speakers, and team building.

    What are AVID results?

Over 95% of students who have graduated from AVID programs have enrolled in four-year colleges and universities.  Two years later, 89% are still enrolled.
