  • 7 8 Lead Awards Q2

At the end of each quarter, teachers nominate students to win the LEAD award at our Leadership Rallies. These students exhibit the 7 Habits by being respectful and responsible, setting and monitoring their goals, working well with others, listening to their teachers and peers, and taking care of themselves.

    5 6 Lead Awards Q2

  •     Great leaders learn how to face challenges and lead their own life, so they can better lead others. Leadership takes courage and commitment. It means doing what is right, even when it’s difficult. Mexico Middle School is proud to be a LEAD school, studying the 7 Habits. This begins with the 5 Core Paradigms: Everyone Can Be a Leader, Everyone Has Genius, Change Starts With Me, Empower Students to Lead Their Own Learning, and Educators and Parents’ Partner to Educate the Whole Child.

The Staff and Student Lighthouse Teams are a vital part of our Leader in Me journey. The team creates lessons for our Drop Everything and LEAD (DEAL) each month. These lessons teach the 7 Habits: Be Proactive, Begin With the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand Then to be Understood, Synergize, and Sharpen the Saw. They also monitor the classroom and school Wildly Important Goals (WIGs). These are celebrated at our Leadership Rallies. The Kindness Closet is also run by our lighthouse team. This is a place where students can go to get clothing or hygienic items if they need them.

The Mexico Middle School Student Lighthouse Team is a group of students with exceptional leadership skills who are committed to serving our school and community. Students teach and find meaningful ways to incorporate the 7 Habits into our school and team projects. The team is led by Audree LaPerle and Tara Snyder.

Throughout the year they will work on school improvement projects, community service projects, and plan leadership events and opportunities. Past contributions to our school community include leading our quarterly leadership rallies, honoring all staff during staff appreciation week, and promoting/participating in all school events!

    Current projects include:

-Creating handmade ornaments to sell at Christmas in Mexico for fundraising

-Service Learning Project: Creating blankets and collecting donations for Helping Hounds

    -Teacher appreciation celebration

-Building Beautification (Building decor and gardens)

    -Kindness Closet

    -More to come!
