Fifth Grade

Hi! My name is Kristin Doving and I teach 5th grade. This is my third year at Bahia Vista and I am very excited to be a part of this team. I received my Bachelors degree in Communication from the University of California, San Diego, and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from National University, where I am also finishing my Masters in Education program. I am a native of San Rafael and attended all San Rafael City Schools, and I couldn't be happier to return to my hometown and be a part of this community. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, as well as playing and coaching volleyball. I am looking forward to the 2017-2018 school year!

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Kristin Doving y enseño quinto grado.  Este es mi tercer año en Bahia Vista y estoy muy emocionada de ser parte de este equipo.  Recibí mi Licenciatura en Comunicación de la Universidad de California, San Diego, y mi Credencial de Maestra de Materias Multiples de la Universidad Nacional, donde también estoy terminando mi maestria en el programa de Educación.  Soy nativa de San Rafael y asistí a las escuelas del distrito Escolar de San Rafael, y no podría sentirme más contenta de regresar a mi pueblo natal y ser parte de esta comunidad.  Fuera del salón de clases, disfruto pasar mi tiempo libre con mi familia y amigos, así como jugar y ser una entrenadora de váleibol.  ¡Espero con ansias al año escolar 2017-2018!

I was born and raised in Seattle, where I attended the University of Washington and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Geography. After a number of years working as a sales representative in the computer industry I obtained my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at San Francisco State University and began my teaching career in San Rafael. I have nine years of teaching experience, the last six at  Bahia Vista Elementary School. From 2006 to 2007, I was a member of The Collaborative Algebra Accessibility Project (TCAAP) which sought to increase the number of Hispanic students successfully completing Algebra in the 8th grade. I am currently a member of iTEAMS, a program to provide teachers with support to deepen their content knowledge and pedagogy to promote STEM education. I am interested in environmental science and spend much of my free time in undeveloped and untamed environments.  Nací y crecí en Seattle, donde asistí a la Universidad de Washington y obtuve una Licenciatura en Humanidades en Geografía.  Después de algunos años trabajando como un representante de ventas en la industria de las computadoras obtuve mi Credencial de Maestro en Materias Múltiples en la Universidad Estatal de San Francisco e inicié mi carrera en la enseñanza en San Rafael.  Tengo nueve años de experiencia en la enseñanza, los últimos seis en la Escuela Primaria Bahia Vista.  Del 2006 al 2007, fue miembro del Proyecto Colaborativo de Accesibilidad al Algebra (TCAAP) el cual buscó el incrementar el número de estudiantes hispanos que completaran con éxito Algebra en el 8º grado.  Actualmente soy miembro de iTEAMS, un programa para proporcionar a los maestros con el apoyo para profundizar su conocimiento del contenido temático y la pedagogía para promover la educación STEM.  Estoy interesado en la ciencia ambiental y paso mucho de mi tiempo libre en medio ambientes sin desarrollar y en su estado natural.

Hi! My name is Emily Koller. I grew up in the historic city of Vallejo, the first capital of California. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from our own local and famous Dominican University of California. In pursuing my desire to better the world and make a difference, I first taught preschool to the children of the Canal for eight years at Community Action Marin. That was one of the most enriching experiences of my life and I will never forget the many faces and relationships that blossomed from my time there. Eventually however, I felt the calling to continue my path as an educator and earned a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Master’s in Elementary Education from Phoenix University. It was from that point on that I started to teach at Bahia Vista in 2008. I have been teaching 5th grade for the past six years. At home, I love gardening and have channeled that interest into creating a wildlife habitat for California native and drought-resistant plants. Originally inspired by Dominican University’s four pillars of study, community, reflection, and service, I continue to strive to create enriching and fulfilling experiences for my students and their families so that the future can be a brighter place.  ¡Hola! Me llamo Emily Koller.  Crecí en la histórica ciudad de Vallejo, la primera capital de California.  Obtuve una Licenciatura en Humanidades en Ciencias Políticas de nuestra famosa y local Universidad de California Dominican.  Buscando lograr mi deseo de mejorar el mundo y lograr hacer la diferencia, primero enseñe preescolar a los niños del Canal durante ocho años en Acción de la Comunidad de Marin.  Esa fue una de las experiencias que más enriquecieron mi vida y nunca olvidaré las muchas caras y relaciones que florecieron de mi tiempo ahí.  Eventualmente sin embargo, sentí el llamado a continuar mi camino como un educador y obtuve una Credencial de Maestra de Materias Múltiples en Educación Primaria de la Universidad de Phoenix.  Fue desde ese momento que empecé a enseñar en Bahia Vista en 2008. He estado enseñando quinto grado por los últimos seis años.  En casa, me encanta la jardinería, y he canalizado ese interés creando un medio ambiente silvestre para las plantas nativas de California resistentes a la sequía.  Originalmente inspirada por los cuatro pilares de estudio de la Universidad Dominican, comunidad, reflexión, y servicio, continúo haciendo mi mejor esfuerzo para crear experiencias enriquecedoras y satisfactorias para mis estudiantes y sus familias de modo que el futuro pueda ser más brillante.

Hi! I’m Kelsey Maldonado and I teach 5th grade.  I have been teaching at Bahia Vista since 2013. I received my Bachelor’s of Arts in Spanish and my Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of San Francisco. I grew up in the little town of Occidental in Sonoma County. I moved to San Francisco for college and have lived there ever since.  When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time in nature and with animals. I love teaching because I am able to give my students tools that they can use for the rest of their education and lives.  I especially like being a teacher at Bahia Vista because of the strong sense of community we have here.  ¡Hola! Soy Kelsey Maldonado y enseño 5º grado.  He dado clase en Bahia Vista desde 2013.  Obtuve mi Licenciatura en Humanidades en Español y mi Maestría en Educación Primaria de la Universidad de San Francisco.  Crecí en el pequeño pueblo de Occidental en el Condado de Sonoma.  Me cambié a San Francisco para asistir al colegio y ahí he vivido desde entonces.  Cuando no estoy enseñando, disfruto pasar mi tiempo libre en la naturaleza y con animales.  Me encanta enseñar porque puedo proporcionar herramientas a mis estudiantes que ellos pueden usar para el resto de su educación y sus vidas.  Me encanta especialmente ser una maestra en Bahia Vista por el fuerte sentido de comunidad que tenemos aquí.
