Evergreen has enjoyed a very successful and long running reading program called Reading Is Fundamental.  This program has benefited our students for seventeen years!  Every child chooses a book from a wide selection of titles that is his/hers to keep.  They take these books home to add to their personal library.

I will be teaching our Child Safety curriculum later in the school year.  You probably remember some of the “Homelinks” I have sent home in the years past.  But, in the meantime, here is a site that has videos, pamphlets, and many more resources for you as a parent, who wants to keep your precious kids safe.

If we practice fire drills, does that mean that we are going to have a fire?  NO!  But, if there is, we will know what to do to keep ourselves and others safe.  It’s the same with preventing sexual abuse, only the statistics are more sobering.  1 in 4 girls and 1 in 20 boys will be sexually abused by the time they reach 18.  90% of the time, the abuse is by someone known by the child.  36% of the time it is by an older child.  There is no one type of offender.  It can be a friend, family member, coach, teacher, clergy, etc. of any gender.  It’s important for kids to know that it is never too late to report.
