Cooking Up Language
The cold weather has made for some cozy days at home. Warm cookies and soup makes a cold day much better. Baking or cooking with your children creates some great learning opportunities. Children learn about math by measuring, counting, and comparing ingredients while cooking. Language is enriched with describing words about how items look, feel, and taste. Children learn the importance of sequencing by making certain not to skip steps while baking. I also love when kids can tell me about an activity, such as cooking at home. Retelling events is a great language skill and it needs development with relevant activities and events. I hope you get some good ideas to enhance your child’s learning. Stay warm this winter! J
