PC to D.C. Trip Update
Last year I had the great pleasure to travel to Washington, D.C. for seven days with a group of twelve 8th graders and two other sponsors. This was the second time I have had the chance to make this fantastic trip. Putnam County Middle School has been sponsoring this trip for over a decade now. It is historic, fun and extremely educational. A unique opportunity for kids to finish their time in middle school by going on the trip of a lifetime with a group of classmates.
Some of the sights we experienced included:
-
Arlington Cemetery Tour
-
Monuments Tour
-
White House Tour
-
Capital Tour
-
Library of Congress Tour
-
Supreme Court Tour
-
Twilight Tattoo (History of the Military- Live Entertainment)
-
Smithsonian Air & Space Museum
-
Bureau of Engraving & Printing
-
Hop & Stop Bus Tour
-
Ford’s Theatre
-
National Archives & other Smithsonian Museums
-
Haunted Graveyard Tour
-
National Zoo
-
Mount Vernon Tour
-
The Capital Wheel (Ferris Wheel on the Potomac River)
-
Pentagon Tour
One of the best parts from a student’s perspective was the wonderful time hanging out with classmates while experiencing new adventures, something that they will never forget.
I am saddened by the fact that we, unfortunately, did not have enough students this year who filled out applications to make the trip a reality.
I truly hope that next year’s 8th-grade students will take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Parents, if you think this would be a good life experience to celebrate your child’s move from Middle School to High School, please encourage them to apply next year.
Sincerely,
Andrew Garber
Middle School Principal
