Five teams representing Ottumwa High School and Evans Middle School’s Talented and Gifted program competed in five different challenge catagories at the Odyssey of the Mind competition in Ames on April 5. Students will be advancing to World Finals May 25 through the 28 competing against 855 teams from around the world in Ames on Iowa State University campus.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.

Team Escape Vroom in the car category from Evans earned first place. Team members include: Jade Davis, Grady Zuitohff, Addy Thompson, Lily Garrison, Noah Fogle, Isabella Hoffman, and Raina Plate.
Structure Team from Evans earned first place. Team members include: Karen Ramirez, Tamsin McElderry, Marijose Andrade, Giselle Cordova, Emerson Keith, Jasmine Maria Corona, and Kelin McElderry.
Life is a Circus Team, the performance team in the circus division from Evans, earned first place. Team members include: Alyssa Turner, Sophia Mendables, Finn Feikert, Lydia Krueger, Kayla Simmons, Maya Joshi, and Anthony Rivera.
The OHS team in the circus division placed first. Team members include: Carter Kendrick, Talise Plate, Lydia Roling, Teagan Holman, North Lindell, Gael Batres, and Samantha Khamphilanouvong.
The Gadget Ocean Animals Team in the technical division from Evans earned second place. Team members include: Ramon Hernandez, McKenna Ryan, Finley Zuithoff, Madalyn Serttherh, Daniel Siera, Sophia Huffman, and Joey Naumann.
