Students Compete in State Lego Competition

Three FIRST LEGO League teams will compete at state this weekend at Iowa State University. In its 30th year, the FIRST LEGO League is designed to provide an opportunity for students to research a real world problem and develop solutions. The First LEGO League Challenge this year required teams to solve a physical, mental, or mechanical problem that astronauts encounter during long durations in space.

The elementary team, Shooting Stars Team #363, has students from several Ottumwa elementary schools, including: Josie Aljets, Mia Bishop, Raina Plate,  Grady Zuithoff, Veni Kotev, Lauren Kendrick, Lydia Schmidt, Adeline Thompson, Lydia Krueger, and Heath Proctor. North and South Hyvee were team sponsors. The team is coached by Breanna Hinmon, Gina Martin, and Ann Youngman.

Two FIRST LEGO League teams from Evans Middle School are also advancing to state competition.

Team members for Team 792 Flashmob are:  Brynn Addis, Reese Bradford, Camdyn Crouse, Isabel Fisher, Madi Greene, Carlos Jimenez, Luke Mellin, Caleb Norman, Talise Plate, and Lydia Roling.  794 Team Benny and the Jetsons are: Colton Addis, Gael Batres, Kaitlyn Baeza, Stephanie Cordova, Shawn Galloway, Luke Graeve, Carter Kendrick, Emma Strayer, Sara McElroy, and Jarrett Wellings.

Both teams were coached by Heidi Bradford and Teri Oldham.

Good luck to our teams at state!
