The Evans Middle School Mock Trial team is made up of 10 members. The students are: Jonathan Wailes, sixth grade; Jasmine Luedtke and Jacob Grooms, seventh grade; and Lillian Mitchell, Bladen Reinier, Emma Strayer, Sara McElroy, Hailey Garrison, Ava Hanson, and Kaitlyn Baeza, eighth grade.
This year's case is a civil trial about a student who contracted Lyme disease while at a summer camp. The camper's parents are suing and claiming that the company who owns and runs the summer camp, Gryzzl Corporation, was negligent and this could have been prevented. The team has been working on the case for the past eight weeks and looks forward to sharing what they have learned about trial proceedings, rules, and evidence through the regional competition.
The team will be compete at the Mock Trial regional competition on Wednesday, October 31 in Marshalltown at Marshalltown Community College. There will be 10 teams total at the competition, with two teams who will receive bids to the State Mock Trial Competition from November 27-29 in Des Moines. The team is coached by Breanna Hinmon (elementary TAG teacher) and Attorney Reuben Neff.
Good luck to the Evans Mock Trial team!
