Students to Compete in State History Day

Three students from Evans Middle School will advance to state level competition on April 30 in Des Moines. 

Heidi Testa and Joslyn Camacho created a group documentary, “Truman’s Decision to Drop the Atomic Bomb.” Kaya Baca will also present her individual website, “Twin Experiments of the Holocaust.”

Twenty-five Talented and Gifted students from Evans Middle School created 11 different entries around this year’s theme, “Conflict and Compromise.” They competed against other middle and high school students from southern Iowa who competed in several presentation categories, including Documentaries, Exhibits, Historical Research Papers, Websites, or Historical Performances. 

Cloe Armstrong received runner-up recognition for her exhibit, “The Atomic Bomb.” Other student participants included:  Quintin Hull, Alyvia Van Maanen, Ella Allar, Allen Cook, Zachary McCarty, Kevin Moreno Lozano, Jerin Fridinger, Martin Bahena, Roberto Ponce, Stephen Troxel, Alex Farness, Bladen Reinier, Genessis Rico, Esther Peralta, Yulian Nunez, Annette Barrios, Dallas Kester, Olivia Coram, Drew Wilbanks, Beverly Bishop, and Hailey Garrison.
