OM Students Advance to World Competition

Two Odyssey of the Mind teams from Evans Middle School will be advancing to the World Finals in May after qualifying at the state competition at Iowa State University on Saturday, April 7.

Team Stellar Hangout placed first and will advance to World competition. Team members include:   North Lindell, Teagan Holman, Yasmine Tapetillo-Cordova, Abigail Rodgers, Tristen Lord, Elaine Prose, and Paige Anderson.  

Team Triathlon Travels earned a second place finish and will also compete at World. Members of the car team includes:  Kaitlyn Scott, Shawn Galloway, Emma Strayer, Olivia Palen, Tristen Lemeuse, Calvin Neely, Gael Batres, and Sydney Paulk. 

Three other teams also competed at state. Taking second place for their Emoji Challenge was:  Luke Graeve, Jacob Mellin, Ava Hanson, Sara McElroy, Jarrett Wellings, Carter Kendrick, and Michael Cain. 

Taking second place in Stellar Hangout for Division 3 were:  Rivers Maw, Carollin Mellin, Isabelle Mellin, Hasya Joshi, Braydon Songer, Hayden Short, and Josie Young.

Mockumentary Seriously finished in fourth place. Team members were:  Addison Ransom, Payton Brannen, Stephanie Sagal Cordova, Trey Hull, Penelope Teel, Lane Spurgeon, Kenna Gorden, and Lorna Bauer.

All teams were made up of students in the district’s Talented and Gifted program. Teams compete in a skit presentation and spontaneous challenge. The World Finals will include 800 teams from 40 states and over 20 countries. The event will be held in May at Iowa State University. 

All teams were coached by Heidi Bradford and Zach Forrett.
