The Iowa Department of Human Rights is currently seeking students interested in serving on the Iowa Youth Congress (IYC) and the State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council (SIYAC). Applications close June 3.
The State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council is formally in Iowa code (216A.140.8) to provide input and education to the Governor, general assembly and state decision makers about issues impacting youth. SIYAC consists of 21 youth ages 14-20 from across the state who serve a 2-year term. Youth can apply to be a member of SIYAC here: bit.ly/SIYAC2021
Iowa Youth Congress seeks up to 100 high school youth who are interested in gaining knowledge about state government and legislature. Students have the opportunity to gain hands-on education in the subject areas of state government, democracy, advocacy and civic engagement.
